    This recipe is named after Sir Peter Snell because it went so fast!!! It has been passed down through my family and is simply delicious! (Sorry there is no picture, I was meaning to take one but it had all gone before I got there)

    Ingredients
    Serves: 10 

    • Base
    • 125g butter
    • 3/4 cup Sugar
    • 1 Tbsp golden syrup
    • 1 egg
    • 1tbsp cocoa
    • 1½ cups flour
    • 1 Tbsp baking powder
    • Topping
    • 3/4 cup sugar
    • 1/2 tin (about 200g) of sweetened condensed milk
    • 1½ tbsp flour
    • 2 tbsp golden syrup
    • 2 tbsp butter
    • 2 drops of vanilla essence
    • Icing
    • 1½ cups icing sugar, sifted
    • 2 tbsp cocoa
    • 20g butter, melted
    • 3 tbsp boiling water

    Directions
    Preparation:1hour  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Extra time:10min  ›  Ready in:1hour30min 

    1. Cream butter and sugar then add golden syrup and egg. Then add dry ingredients.
    2. Cook in a moderate oven (180 degrees C) for 20 mins.
    3. To make the caramel topping; cook all ingredients together slowly over a low heat. Once the base has cooled down poor over base. Refrigerate.
    4. Once icing and base are cooled make the chocolate icing by mixing all the ingredients together and pour over top, refrigerate.

    I've been wanting to make this for a long time, had the recipe printed for a while, but when I went to make it I thought that the instructions could be clearer, for instance, what size pan should we use? should it be lined? greased? also cook the 2nd layer until when? until the butter has melted? until it boils? until the sugar is dissolved? A bit confusing for someone who hasn't made this recipe before. Of course, I probably should have read better before I picked this recipe, but it sounded nice. the slice is nice. not fantastic. Sorry. To the person who isn't sure why there's three butter measuring, this is a three layer slice, the first layer is called "base" (so you use those ingredients) and is baked in the oven, the 2nd layer is topping and is poured over the first layer when the first layer has cooled, and the third layer is the icing, added last when everything is cooled. hth. - 02 Jul 2011

    please post a photo, i want to know if ive made it right. there was no oven temp and you have three different types of measurments for butter. hope i made it right it sounds and smells grouse - 05 Jul 2009
