Chocolaty Pecan Slice

    A yummy slice for those wanting the taste of pecan pie, with a chocolate flavour burst and the convenience of slice form for when you've got to bring a plate and other parties and occasions.

    Serves: 16 

    • 1½ cups (185g) flour
    • 1/4 cup (60g) white sugar
    • 125g butter
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 2 eggs
    • 3/4 cup golden syrup
    • 1 cup (220g) white sugar
    • 2 tbsp butter, melted
    • 1 tbsp vanilla essence
    • 1 cup pecan halves
    • 1 cup chocolate chips

    1. Preheat oven to 175 degrees C. Grease the sides and bottom of a slice tin.
    2. In a large bowl combine the flour, 1/4 cup sugar, butter and salt and rub together until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press firmly into the prepared tin.
    3. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven but leave oven on.
    4. In a large bowl stir the eggs, the syrup, 1 cup white sugar, melted butter and vanilla until blended. Stir in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips.
    5. Spread the filling evenly over the hot base. Bake at 175 degrees C for 25 minutes or until set. Let cool before slicing.
