Classic Shortbread

These all-butter shortbread biscuits are simple yet luxurious. Use a biscuit cutter to make festive shapes for Christmas or any occasion!

Ingredients

Serves : 12 

  • 450g butter, softened
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 500g plain flour

Directions

Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:12min  ›  Ready in:27min 

  1. Preheat oven to 180 C.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Stir in vanilla; add flour and mix well.
  3. Roll out to 1cm thickness and cut out desired shapes with biscuit cutters. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.

Wow! Half the butter though please! Way too much butter. I had to add several cups of flour which made them a bit chalky but still quite good. - 14 Dec 2011

i used half the quantity of ingredients just to try them and i still somehow got 12 biscuits (medium size). I had to leave them in the oven for 20 minutes in total and they were scrumptious!!! - 12 Dec 2012
