French Onion Potato Bake

This potato bake is yummy and even better the next day, if there's any leftover that is! Especially great for barbecues.


Serves: 12 

  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 1 (40g) packet French onion soup mix
  • 250g bacon, diced, optional
  • 6-8 large potatoes, peeled
  • 500g cheese, grated
  • 600ml cream

Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:50min  ›  Ready in:1hour10min 

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Lightly grease with cooking spray a large baking dish.
  2. Place a layer of sliced onions on the bottom of the dish then add a sprinkle of French onion soup mix, then add a layer of bacon pieces, followed by a layer of potato slices, a layer of grated cheese then top with a pouring of cream.
  3. Continue adding alternate layers of all ingredients until finished and top with a final layer of grated cheese.
  4. Spray a piece of aluminium foil with cooking spray then cover dish and place in the oven for 40-50 minutes.
  5. Remove foil then continue to bake for a further 10 minutes or until nicely browned and bubbly.
