Creamy Potato Bake

    Thinly sliced potatoes with a creamy, subtlety pepper flavoured sauce. It is so easy to make and is a great accompaniment to roasts and steaks.

    Serves: 4 

    • 4 medium potatoes
    • 2 cups (500ml) milk or cream
    • freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    • small amount butter or margarine

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. Lightly grease a shallow oven proof dish.
    3. Thinly slice the potatoes.
    4. Place a layer of potatoes over the base of the dish.
    5. Cover with light sprinkle of the freshly ground pepper.
    6. Repeat with layers of potato and pepper until all the potato is until used.
    7. Gently pour milk over potatoes until it just covers them.
    8. Place small dobs of butter on top.
    9. Place in oven and cook for about 45 minutes.
    10. Top should be golden brown in colour.
    11. Check that the potatoes are cooked through by placing fork or skewer through centre.
    12. Allow an average of one potato per person to be served.
    13. If using cream instead of milk, you will get a creamier texture.
