    This is a recipe for a cake that my mum and I used to make on Saturdays. It was often iced with mint icing and grated chocolate but you can use any icing you want.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 8 

    • 60g butter
    • 1 cup (220g) sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 1 1/2 cups (185g) flour
    • 2 tablespoons baking powder
    • 1/2 cup (60g) cocoa
    • 1 cup (250ml) milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
    • 1 pinch salt, to taste

    Directions
    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min 

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C and grease a 20cm round cake tin.
    2. Cream butter and sugar then add egg, vanilla and golden syrup.
    3. Mix milk and bicarbonate soda together.
    4. Sift all dry ingredients in alternating between them and the milk.
    5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

    I needed a quick chocolate cake so made this. SUPER yummy. It is very fragile though, so handle with care. Great enough to eat without frosting as well, with coffee! I added honey as a substitute for golden syrup because I did not have any. - 04 Sep 2016
