Easy Gingerbread Shapes

    This is a super easy gingerbread recipe that the kids can help with. While waiting to cook you can prepare some hot chocolate for a perfect family afternoon tea.

    Serves: 8 

    • 2 cups (250g) plain flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
    • 125g butter
    • 1/2 cup (125g) sugar
    • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
    • 1 egg

    Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:35min 

    1. Cream butter and sugar then beat in egg.
    2. Sift in flour, bicarb soda and ginger.
    3. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface adding more flour if necessary.
    4. Roll out dough thinly then use any shape cutter and cut away.
    5. Add any decorations then bake for approximately 15 minutes in a 180 degrees C. I can only get 15 stars onto my tray at a time so I usually find I do about 3-4 batches.

    I thought this was a great recipe. Fun and super easy for the kids to decorate or prepare. Definitely a keeper! However it did lack some of that classic gingerbread taste (and colour) and was much more subtle. Overall great biscuit and very easy!  -  01 Oct 2014
