Use this basic pastry recipe for bridies, Cornish pasties or any other savoury pie. Much cheaper than store bought.

Serves: 6 

  • 3 cups plain flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 90g butter
  • 90g lard or white vegetable fat
  • About 4 tablespoons chilled water, to mix

Preparation:1hour  ›  Cook:1hour15min  ›  Ready in:2hours15min 

  1. To make the pastry, sift the flour and salt into a mixing bowl, rub in the fats until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs, then mix to a firm dough with the chilled water. Wrap and chill the dough while preparing the filling. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C and bake according to recipe requirements.
