Cheesy Cauliflower and Broccoli Bake

A baked gratin of cauliflower and broccoli with a thick cheese sauce. Crunchy walnuts are added on top. It's just as good served on its own or as a side dish.

This was a hit with the family and quite easy to prepare. Liked the sauce in comparison with the traditional white sauce with more fat in it. See tweaks for slight variations I used.

Used different ingredients. As I had no walnuts and find almonds more palatable anyway, I used flaked almonds for the topping - and also added a sprinkling of grated parmesan. Would also suggest using strong vintage cheddar, for a well-flavoured sauce.

I followed Melly's changes, so I added parmesan cheese, used almond slivers but I also added some garlic to the cheese sauce and sprinkled nutmeg on top. Super delicious!

This was revolting! I made it to the exact specifications and was unable to tolerate more than two mouthfuls. There was way too much breadcrumbs which made it all powdery on top. The walnuts on top gave it a very bitter taste and the cheese/white sauce was flavourless, may as well have been eating glue.
