    This is a great wholesome and filling pasta sauce packed with goodness including beef, bacon, tomato and red wine. Serve on your favourite pasta and with the remaining red wine.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 1 medium onion, finely diced
    • 2 rashers streaky bacon, unsmoked, diced
    • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
    • 500g lean beef mince
    • 1 large garlic clove, crushed
    • 250g tinned Italian tomatoes
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
    • 1/2 glass (100ml) red wine
    • 1 teaspoon dried basil
    • salt and fresh black pepper, to taste
    • 1 beef stock cube

    Directions
    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:50min  ›  Ready in:1hour5min 

    1. In a heavy frying pan or skillet gently soften the onion and bacon in the olive oil for 5 minutes.
    2. Turn up the heat and add the mince stirring until cooked.
    3. Add the rest of the ingredients, season, cover and simmer on a very low heat for 20 minutes stirring occasionally.
    4. Remove the lid and continue to simmer for another 20 minutes.
