A easy hot fruit dessert; you can use almost any kind of fruit, this has blackberries cos we came across a stash of unsprayed blackberries!
For the fruit
700g cooking apples, or any apples
4 tablespoons sugar
5 tablespoons plain flour
1 tablespoon melted butter
For the topping
150g plain flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons sugar
120ml buttermilk (or fresh milk with a teaspoon of lemon juice)
- Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. Peel, core and roughly chop the apples and mix with the blackberries, sugar, melted butter and flour. Place in a 23x33cm ovenproof dish.
- To make the topping, sift flour and baking powder together. Rub in butter until mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar and buttermilk.
- Drop spoonfuls of the topping mixture on to the fruit; it doesn't have to be completely covered.
- Bake in preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes or until fruit is soft and topping is risen and golden.
