Doesn't taste like your traditional cake, but that's okay - vegearian and vegan cooking often doesn't. As a substitute for non-vegan cake it's passable. I made cupcakes rather than a full cake, baking them for 20 minutes. They're a bit OTT with regards to cocoa, IMO, and taste better warm out of the oven than cooled down. I'd be inclined to drop the cocoa and raise the vanilla essence slghtly, and see if this made a difference. - 14 Mar 2010
