Matzo kugel is a Passover dish but it also makes a nice savory side dish any time of year. This one has mushrooms and onions and is seasoned with garlic and dill.

Serves: 4 

  • 3 cups matzo farfel
  • 2 onions, peeled and chopped
  • 500g mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 pinch garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease an 20x30cm baking dish.
  2. Place farfel in a colander and pour boiling water over it.
  3. In a large frying pan, cook and stir onions and mushrooms in vegetable oil. Stir in salt and pepper, garlic powder and dill. Remove from heat and stir farfel into the skillet.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour.
