Slow Bolognese Sauce

    Here's a simple and simply delicious bolognese sauce. My kids all love it. Serve this with spaghetti and grated cheese.

    Serves: 6 

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 large onion, chopped
    • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 450g lean mince
    • 2 400g tins chopped tomatoes
    • I each large red, green and yellow capsicums
    • 1 tablespoon Italian herbs
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • freshly ground pepper to taste

    1. Deseed the capsicums and chop into squares, chop the onion into squares and crush the garlic.
    2. Heat the olive oil in a heavy saucepan and cook the onion and garlic for two minutes.
    3. Mix the mince in with the onion and garlic and cook until the meat is browned.
    4. Add the chopped tomatoes, chopped capsicums salt, ground pepper and Italian seasoning and mix well.
    5. Cover and simmer over low heat for 4 hours. Stir occasionally.
