Fern's Apple Crumble

    Apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and rolled oats are combined to create this easy apple crumble dessert that's sure to please a crowd.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 10 

    • Apple Filling
    • 1.2kg sliced apples
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons plain flour
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 85g butter, chopped
    • Topping
    • 2 cups plain flour
    • 2 cups rolled oats
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 225g butter, chopped, at room temperature

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 175 degrees C.
    2. Make apple filling

    3. Toss apple slices with 1 cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a medium-sized baking dish. Top with 85g butter.
    4. Make topping

    5. Mix 2 cups flour, oatmeal, 2 cups brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, bicarb, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Rub in 225g butter until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over apples.
    6. Bake in the preheated oven until bubbly and golden brown, about 45 minutes.

    Cook's Note:

    Add chopped nuts to the crumble topping if desired.
