Smoky Beef Burger with Slaw

    Adding smoked paprika to these beef burgers gives them a rich smoky flavour which goes perfectly with a creamy coleslaw.

    Serves: 4 

    • 500g beef mince
    • 1/4 cup smoky barbecue sauce, divided
    • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 cup wholegrain breadcrumbs
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 large brown onion, thinly sliced
    • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
    • 2 tablespoons sour cream
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • salt and freshly ground black pepper
    • 200g pre-packaged coleslaw, without dressing
    • 4 white bread rolls, split and toasted
    • 75g baby spinach leaves
    • 8 slices canned beetroot

    1. Combine the beef mince, half the barbecue sauce, the Worcestershire, paprika, egg and breadcrumbs in a bowl. Mix well. Shape into four 2cm-thick patties.
    2. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes each side or until cooked as desired. Transfer to a plate and cover to keep warm.
    3. Add the onion to the same pan and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until golden.
    4. Meanwhile, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream and lemon juice in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Add the pre-packaged coleslaw and toss until combined.
    5. Place the toasted bread roll bases on serving plates. Top with spinach leaves, coleslaw and beetroot. Place a burger on top of each; add some onion and remaining barbecue sauce. Sandwich with roll tops and serve.
