Brandt's Honey Glazed Ham

    Created by my mother, this recipe has turned out to be the most popular dish, on high demand, by family members at Christmas time.

    Serves: 12 

    • 1 (7kg) leg ham (on the bone)
    • 1 (300g) jar orange marmalade
    • 2 brown onions, thickly sliced
    • 1 (375ml) bottle apple cider

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. Pull rind (skin) off ham by hand. Using a sharp knife, score a cross hatch pattern, about 1cm deep, into fat.
    3. Place ham in a large baking dish. Cover with foil. Cook for 40 minutes. Remove from tray.
    4. Arrange sliced onions at least 1cm thick on bottom of tray. Pour cider over onions. Place ham on top of onions.
    5. In saucepan over medium heat marmalade, stirring, for 3-4 minutes or until thin. Baste ham with warm marmalade.
    6. Bake ham for 40 minutes, basting with pan juices every 10-15 minutes.
    7. Carve ham and serve.
