Family favourite Bolognese

    My go to recipe for a healthy home made family favourite.

    • 500g mince beef
    • 800g tinned diced tomatoes
    • 1 onion(diced)
    • 1 carrot(grated)
    • 1 red pepper(diced)
    • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Teaspoon of chili powder(optional)
    • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
    • Few dashes of Worcestershire sauce
    • Spaghetti or your pasta of choice
    • *canned pineapple in juice


    1. Add a little oil and fry onion on medium heat for a few minutes until it starts to soften
    2. Add garlic, salt, pepper and chili and fry for another minute
    3. Add red pepper and carrot and fry for another minute or 2
    4. Add mince and Worcestershire sauce and cook until lightly browned
    5. Add tomatoes and paste and bring to the boil
    6. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 45 minutes(stirring occasionaly)
    7. Bring water to the boil for your pasta and at the same time remove the lid from your sauce and let it thicken. Add Oregano. *
    8. Cook and drain your pasta
    9. Your sauce should be nice and thick now. Serve sauce with your pasta and Enjoy.


    *If like me you enjoy pineapple on your pizza, pineapple in bolognese tastes very nice indeed. Add chopped up pineapple rings to your sauce just as you let it thicken. I prefer tinned pineapple(in its own juice) for this as it is consistent in flavour and texture.
