Caramel and Chocolate Slice

    This caramel chocolate slice is always a hit at parties and large gatherings, always the first dish to go!

    Serves: 8 

    • Base
    • 1 cup plain flour
    • 1/2 cup almond meal
    • 125g butter, melted
    • 3/4 cup caster (superfine) sugar
    • Filling
    • 1/2 cup golden syrup
    • 125g butter, melted
    • 2 (400g) tins sweetened condensed milk
    • Chocolate Topping
    • 200g dark cooking chocolate
    • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. Base: Place the flour, almond meal, butter and caster sugar in a bowl and mix to combine.
    3. Press the mixture into a 20cm x 30cm tin lined with non-stick baking paper and bake in pre-heated oven for 15 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool.
    4. Filling: Place the golden syrup, butter and sweetened condensed milk in a saucepan over low heat and stir for 6-8 minutes or until thickened slightly.
    5. Pour over the base and bake in pre-heated oven for 20 minutes or until golden. Refrigerate until cooled completely.
    6. Chocolate Topping: Place the chocolate and vegetable oil in a heat-proof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water and stir until melted.
    7. Spread the chocolate mixture over the caramel and refrigerate for 2 hours or until set. Slice to serve.
