Authentic Empanada Pastry

    Try this easy and authentic empanada pastry! Quick to make since all ingredients are mixed in a food processor, then kneaded just very quickly and it's done. You can make it in advance, just cut it into discs and freeze for later use.

    Makes: 12 empanada pastry discs

    • 250g plain flour, sifted
    • 50g butter, chilled and cubed
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 90ml warm water

    Preparation:15min  ›  Extra time:30min  ›  Ready in:45min 

    1. Place sifted flour in the food processor with chilled butter. Pulse until mixture forms crumbs. Add egg and pulse until just combined.
    2. Dissolve salt in warm water. Add gradually to the food processor and pulse until a soft pastry dough ball is formed.
    3. Turn into a bowl and wrap tightly with plastic wrap then chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
    4. Flour a work surface then knead the dough for 1 minute. Roll out to a thickness of 2mm then cut into discs. At this stage you can freeze the discs for later use, or use right away for your favourite sweet or savoury empanadas.
