Meatloaf with Barbecue Sauce

Got this out of my mothers recipes years ago


  • 500 Grams Beef mince
  • 500 Grams Sausage mince
  • 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 2 onions, Finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Curry powder
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped Parsley
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • for the sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup Worchestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee powder
  • 30 grams butter
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice


  1. Combine sausage mince, Beef mince, breadcrumbs, onions, curry powder, salt, pepper, parsley and lightly beaten egg in a bowl.
  2. Mix until mixture is well combined.
  3. Gradually add milk and water, continue mixing until very smooth.
  4. Shape mixture into loaf and place in a greased baking dish.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven for 30 minutes. Remove from oven, pour off any surplus fat. Pour sauce over meatloaf and return to oven. Bake for a further 45 minutes basting frequently with the sauce.
  6. Serve hot with vegetables or cold with a salad.
  7. Sauce.
  8. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, bring slowly to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  9. After meatloaf is cooked and if sauce is still runny, pour it back into saucepan and reduce it down or thicken it with a little cornflour and water and drizzle back over meatloaf.
