Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C. Line a 12 hole muffin tin with paper cases.
Place all the ingredients, except the cherries, in a large bowl and beat well until smooth. Add the cherries and mix until well incorporated. If the mixture becomes a little dry then you can also add a few teaspoons of milk.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared paper cases, filling up only to half way to ensure plenty of space for a good rise.
Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until risen and golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
