Traditional Apple Crumble

    This is the most basic apple crumble recipe, from here you can add extra ingredients like rhubarb or peach to the apple, or oats and cereal to the crumble.

    • Fruit
    • 3 Granny Smith apples
    • Topping
    • 100g butter
    • 200g plain flour
    • 1 dash mixed spice
    • 50g brown sugar

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Grease an ovenproof dish with butter.
    2. Fruit: Finely dice the apples and gently start to stew 2 of the apples on the stove top. Keep the third apple finely diced for later.
    3. Topping: Put the butter, flour, cinnamon and sugar in a mixing bowl. Rub together until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
    4. To Assemble: Combine the raw apple with the stewed apple and place in the prepared ovenproof dish. This gives a range of textures to the apples. Sprinkle all the topping over the apples.
    5. To Cook: Bake for 30 minutes or until the top of the crumble is golden and crisp.
