Sticky Salted Caramel Apple Slice

    I opened a few packets and tins then ended up with this invention. It's totally yummy, and worth a try making.

    Serves: 6 

    • Base
    • 1 packet vanilla cake mix
    • 1 cup shredded coconut
    • 125g butter, melted
    • Apple Filling
    • 1 (800g) tin pie apples
    • 2 tablespoons white sugar
    • Caramel
    • 2 tins condensed milk
    • 4 tablespoons brown sugar,packed
    • 100g butter
    • 2 teaspoons sea salt

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Grease and line a 23cm x 34cm ovenproof dish.
    2. Base: Mix all the ingredients together and press evenly into bottom of the prepared dish. Cook for 12 minutes until lightly browned then remove from oven and cool.
    3. Apple Filling: Mix the apples and white sugar together then heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Put aside.
    4. Caramel: In a medium size saucepan over a medium heat, melt the condensed milk, brown sugar and butter, stirring until boiled. Lower the heat and stir for 5 minutes until thick. Remove from heat and stir in the salt. Cool slightly.
    5. To Assemble: Drain any excess fluid from apples then spread the apples evenly over the base.
    6. Spread the caramel evenly over the apples. refrigerate until cold, about 2 hours.
