This is a favorite salad that uses sour cream as the foundation to the dressing. You can admit the step to remove the water from the cucumber but the dressing can become watery.

Peel cucumbers and slice about 2cm thick. Add to a colander placed on a rimmed dish, toss with salt and let rest for at least 30 minutes to draw out some of the water.
Halve and thinly slice the onion then add to a large bowl with the dressing and cucumbers. Toss, cover tightly and store in refrigerator for several hours, or preferably overnight.
Dressing: Whisk together the vinegar, sugar, sour cream, pepper and dill.
