Spicy Grilled Prawns

    If you want, you can cook these marinated prawns on the barbecue but they work well under the grill. They have to marinate overnight.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 kg green (uncooked) king prawns
    • 1 onion, diced
    • 1/2 cup plain yoghurt
    • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
    • 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
    • 1 tablespoon paprika
    • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
    • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

    1. Remove the heads and legs of the prawns but leave on the shells and tails for extra flavour.
    2. Blend onion, yoghurt, turmeric, chilli powder, paprika, ginger, garlic and lemon juice until a smooth mix.
    3. Combine yoghurt mixture with prawns and mix well. Cover and marinate in the fridge overnight.
    4. Cook the prawns under the grill, brushing occasionally with the marinade, until just done, about 8 minutes.
