Spicy Goat Curry

If you've never tried goat curry before you are in for a treat. This curry is very warming, richly flavourful and delicious! Great for winter.


Serves: 4 

  • 1 kg goat chops
  • 4cm fresh ginger, finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 whole red chillies
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • pepper and salt, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 2 teaspoons coriander powder
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons yoghurt
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

  1. Combine the goat chops with the ginger, garlic, vinegar, chilli powder, salt and pepper, cumin seeds, cumin powder and coriander. Marinate in the fridge 6 hours or overnight.
  2. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker and brown the chops 5-7 minutes. Add 1/2 cup water, cover and cook under pressure 30 minutes.
  3. In a small frypan, heat a little oil and cook the chillies until they change colour, 1-2 minutes. Add the yoghurt and garam masala and cook 2 minutes. Add to the chops and simmer 5 minutes. Serve.
