Five Spice Soy Chicken Wings

    Chinese style soy chicken wings which make fantastic finger food for a party. Use Shaoxing wine if you can, you can get it at Asian markets.

    Makes: 24 wings

    • 12 whole chicken wings
    • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons sherry or Shaoxing wine
    • 1/2 teaspoon five spice powder
    • 1 cup cornflour
    • 4 cups oil, for deep frying

    1. Remove the tips of the wings and cut the wings into two parts through the joint. Mix together the ginger, soy sauce, sherry and five spice powder. Marinate the wings in this 1 hour.
    2. Drain the wings and toss with cornflour. Deep fry in batches in hot oil until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
