Perfect for picnics or as hiking snacks, these raisin and oat biscuits are seasoned with a little cinnamon and nutmeg. Healthier than your average biscuit!

Makes: 36 biscuits

  • 1 cup (125g) plain flour
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 125g margarine
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 1/4 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup raisins

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease baking trays. Stir together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, bicarb soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the margarine, brown sugar and white sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Stir in the dry ingredients using a wooden spoon. Mix in the oats and raisins. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto baking trays, leaving 5cm between biscuits.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven or until lightly browned. Allow biscuits to cool on baking tray for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
