    Maori fried bread made with your own prepared rewena bug then fried in hot oil. Serve topped with honey, golden syrup or just eat it plain. Yummy as.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 6 

    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup rewena (potato bug)
    • warm water, to bind
    • oil or lard for frying

    Directions
    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min 

    1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar and salt then stir in the rewena. Mix well with enough warm water to make a scone like dough.
    2. Heat the oil or lard in a deep wok or frying pan. Roll the dough into small balls then flatten. Fry in the hot oil until cooked through.
    3. Serve with golden syrup.

    Rewena

    Rewena is leaving for that you make out of potato and feed daily, like a sour dough starter. It is used in Maori breads.
