Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. Grease a bar cake tin.
Add butter to bowl, stir until softened. Sift in flour, sugar and salt. Add milk and beat for 2 minutes. Add egg and vanilla and bet for 2 minutes more. Pour into greased bar cake tin then bake for 30-35 minutes.
Beat the cream, icing sugar, cocoa and salt until thick.
Allow cake to cool then slice off the top of the cake, fill with filling then dust top with icing sugar.
I have had this recipe for years. I always make this cake and recently have used the batter to make cupcakes. Makes around 6 nice size cupcakes. Easy to whip up and the texture of the cake is light.
