Preheat oven to 150 degrees C. Line a cake tin with greaseproof baking paper.
Sift together flour, salt, mixed spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and ground almond. Beat together the butter, sugar, eggs, lemon juice, lemon zest and brandy. Combine wet and dry mixtures then fold in the remaining ingredients.
Pour mixture into prepared cake tin, set cake tin on a baking tray then bake in preheated oven for 4 hours, checking half way though to insure proper browning. Allow to cool on a cake rack.
If your cake is browning too fast, cover it with baking paper after about 2 hours.
