Sometimes called a black bun, the Scotch bun is a dried fruit cake with a pasty crust that has always been served around new years in our family. Enjoy.
Grease a cake or loaf tin. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
Combine the flour, baking powder, butter, sugar and salt. Mix to make a thick dough then roll out very thin. Line greased tin, reserving enough to cover the top.
Mix all filling ingredients and moisten with a bit of milk. Spoon into the pastry lined baking tin then cover with remaining pastry.
Prick the top with a fork, brush with the beaten egg then bake in preheated oven for 2-2 1/2 hours.
