These scones are loaded with chopped nuts and this recipe is huge, because you're not going to want to share otherwise. Top with butter and jam then enjoy.


Makes: 24 scones

  • 6 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup baking powder
  • 530g butter
  • 2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 beaten egg yolks

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Dust or line a baking tray.
  2. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder and butter until it resembles course flour. Add the buttermilk and mix until blended. Place on a floured surface then kneed in the nuts, but be gentle.
  3. Divide dough into scone sized squares then brush the tops with the beaten egg yolk. Place on baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 12-18 minutes.
