Rub butter into flour and salt. Add sugar, coconut and bran. Mix to a very dry paste with water and egg yolk. Roll into a log then cut into shapes.
In a bowl, beat the egg white until fluffy and stiff. Beat in the sugar. Spread over the top of each bran biscuit, top with half an almond then bake on a greased baking tray about 15-20 minutes.
