Chunks of dates rolled in sugar then folded inside buttery pastry for a sweet surprise. Baked until golden brown, these make a very pleasant afternoon tea.

Serves: 4 

  • 2 cups self raising flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 80g butter
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 100g dates, chopped

Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:40min 

  1. Preheat oven to 220 degrees C.
  2. Sift together flour and salt. Cut in butter. Gradually add milk to form a soft dough. Roll about 1/2 cm thick. Cut out small circles with a biscuit cutter.
  3. Place sugar on to a plate. Roll each date piece in the sugar until well coated then place each date on to one half of each pastry circles. Fold in half, place on greased baking tray then bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes.
