Sardines Tagliatelle

    This is a fast and easy pasta dish and it is also delicious! You can keep all the ingredients on hand with easy.

    Serves: 4 

    • 250g tagliatelle
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 medium onion, chopped
    • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 1 tin sardines in tomato sauce
    • 1 lemon, juiced
    • 1 pinch chilli flakes
    • freshly grated Parmesan cheese to serve

    Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:20min 

    1. Cook pasta according to packet instructions.
    2. While the pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for a few minutes until soft, then add the garlic and cook until fragrant. Stir in the sardines with their sauce. When the sardines heat through, reduce heat to low and simmer until the pasta is ready.
    3. When the pasta is almost al dente, drain and add it to the sardine sauce. Stir, cover and turn the heat off. Let stand for a few minutes to absorb the flavours of the sauce. Squeeze juice from the lemon over the pasta. Divide onto serving plates and top with chilli flakes and grated Parmesan cheese.

    I like the taste of sardines, but the look of them puts me off, so I rarely buy them, but my son was given a few cans of sardines in tomato sauce and I was at a loss of what to make for dinner, so I went surfing and came across this recipe. Hmm....I was pretty hesitant, but a bit desperate and it scored well, so what the heck... I chopped an onion and two cloves of garlic and also added sliced pepperoni and fried them all up.. Also I added fresh chopped parsley, oregano, basil and marjoram from my garden along with some fresh chopped spinach and capsicum, two cans of sardines in tomato sauce and some frozen corn kernels and mixed it all together. I cooked and drained some spiral pasta and then emptied the fish/pepperoni sauce mix into a casserole dish, mixed the cooked pasta in well, topped it all with a generous amount of mozzarella cheese and baked in a moderate oven until the cheese began to brown. Served it up to my husband, his brother and his friend, my son and myself and every one of us LOVED it! oh yeah, I left out the parmesan lemon juice and chilli flakes... the pepperoni made it mildly spicy.     Altered ingredient amounts. I used 4 cloves garlic and sardines in olive oil (drained), and 4 TB tomato and basil pasta sauce. My husband (who is not a fish fan) absolutely loved it! I loved not only the taste, but it was very quick to prepare!  -  29 Sep 2008


    Altered ingredient amounts. If you're looking for an easy,cheap, but unusual meal, this is it!(...if you like sardines) I altered the recipe to use what I had on hand. Instead of the sardines in tomato sauce, I added sardines in olive oil ,one small tomato, 2 t of tomato sauce, and a splash of red wine.I cooked less pasta to serve two, so it was probably a lot more "sardiney" than the original recipe.
