This is the easiest jam ever. I picked some blackberries off the neighbours fence and voila, free jam. All I add was sugar and balsamic vinegar. It only took 20 minutes.

Makes: 2 cups

  • 2 cups blackberrys
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar

Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Extra time:30min cooling  ›  Ready in:50min 

  1. Wash blackberries to get rid of any bugs or leaves. In a saucepan, mash the blackberries with a potato masher. Stir in the sugar and bring to a boil. Stir in the vinegar.
  2. Allow to simmer for about 15 minutes or until it beings to thicken. Remove from heat and transfer to a bowl, cover and set in the fridge until cooled. Transfer to a covered jar.
  3. Serve on hot buttered toast, buttered wine biscuits or anything else you're keen to have jam on. Lasts about a week.


You can use raspberries, boysenberries or strawberries instead of blackberries.
