The churro is the Mexican version of a donut. Water, butter, flour and eggs are mixed to form a dough, rolled into tubes, fried in oil then coated in sugar and cinnamon.
Makes: 6 churros
500ml olive oil
1 cup (250ml) water
1 cup (125g) flour
1/2 cup (110g) sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pour olive oil into a hot saucepan.
Heat water and butter in another saucepan then mix in the flour. Stir on low heat until it begins to thicken. Remove from heat then mix in the eggs.
- Roll the dough into tube shapes. Fry each tube in olive oil until golden brown and crispy.
- In a bowl mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Roll the cooked churro in the sugar mixture.
Great recipe, kids and adults love it for our Mexican theme party , the kids keep wanting me to remake it!
