Wondering what to do with tapioca? Wonder no longer! This curry, also called Kappa Puzhukku, is simply delicious. It's also a great side to fish or meat.


Serves: 2 

  • 1 kg tapioca pearls
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut
  • 3 green chillies, slit
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 3 onion shallots
  • 2 sprigs curry leaves (optional)
  • salt, to taste

Preparation:30min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:1hour 

  1. Rinse the tapioca, put in a large saucepan and add water to cover. Simmer until almost done, about 25 minutes.
  2. Add shredded coconut, chillies, garlic, fennel and turmeric. Let simmer until tapioca is fully cooked.
  3. Meanwhile, in a frypan, heat vegetable oil and add mustard seeds, shallots and curry leaves. Saute until shallots are browning then add to cooked tapioca. Stir well.
