Paua Fritters

    Paua fritters are a traditional New Zealand dish that make a great main meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

    Serves: 3 

    • 1 cup plain flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 egg
    • 6 pauas, minced
    • 1 onion, finely chopped
    • 1 cup (250ml) milk
    • Butter, for frying

    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min 

    1. Mix dry ingredients. Mix in egg, then paua and onion.
    2. Add milk to make it as the consistency of pikelet batter. Pour small amounts into frying pan with butter.
    3. Fry until golden brown on bottom, flip and fry other side until golden brown.


    Paua is the New Zealand shellfish also known as abalone.
