Split Pea and Bacon Hock Soup

This easy split pea soup recipe is nice because you don't have to soak your peas overnight. And it tastes great too.

Serves: 6 

  • 1 bacon hock
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 3 stalks celery, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 375g split peas
  • 3L water

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:2hours  ›  Ready in:2hours10min 

  1. Boil bacon hock for 10 minutes then remove hock and discard water.
  2. Sauté onion, carrots, celery and garlic over medium heat in oil.
  3. Add peas, hock and 3L's of fresh water. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Add more water if you need.


A bacon hock is similar to a ham hock, but it is smoked.
