These are my childhood favorite homemade savory cheese scones. I used to beg mum to make these all the time.

Makes: 18 scones

  • 2 cups (250g) plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 500g grated cheese
  • 0 pepper and Tabasco to taste
  • 0 milk to bind

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min 

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
  2. Stir in eggs. Stir in cheese. Slowly add milk until the mixture binds together into a thick paste. Add pepper and Tabasco to taste. Spoon into muffin tin.
  3. Bake at 200 degrees C for 20-30 minutes, until golden brown.

These worked out fine, and were very cheesey - with 2 eggs as well as half a kilo of cheese they're a great high protein version of scones. I substituted half the wheat flour for coconut flour too. - 29 May 2013
