Spicy cookie recipe that originated from Germany. Make with freshly ground cinnamon and nutmeg, and for a little extra sweetness, try sprinkling with sugar just before baking.

    1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. Lightly grease or line baking trays.
    2. Cream the butter, sugar, eggs, egg yolk and lemon juice together until fluffy.
    3. Combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and stir in the chopped nuts.
    4. On a lightly floured cloth-covered board roll the dough, 1/3 at a time, to 2mm thick. Cut with a star shaped cookie cutter. Place biscuits on the prepared baking trays. Brush the tops of the biscuits with the remaining egg white, beaten until frothy.
    5. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes.

We made these for christmas last year. They roll out so easy my 2 year old play-doh expert even got to help. We know make them for all the holidays. They are eaten as fast as we make them. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe.  -  27 Nov 2000  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

I have made these two years in a row! I love them! Kids love them, many varieties can be done once they are out of the oven!  -  02 Dec 2000  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

Just the right amount of spice and not too sweet like regular sugary cookies. Gut gemacht!  -  05 Dec 2002  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
