Easy Basic Chocolate Cake

    This is a good basic chocolate cake recipe that can be used in countless variations and decorated however you like.

    Serves: 12 

    • 225g margarine
    • 2 cups (400g) white sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 1 cup (250ml) milk
    • 2 1/3 cups (290g) plain flour, sifted
    • 2/3 cup (60g) unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 4 teaspoons baking powder

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease and flour a 23cm tin. Sift together the flour, cocoa and baking powder. Set aside.
    2. In a large bowl, cream together the margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until incorporated. Pour batter into prepared tin.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.
