Homemade Basic Pizza Base

    This pizza base is made in the bread machine before it is rolled out. It's a great start for any pizza.

    Serves: 15 

    • 1 cup warm water
    • 3/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 345g plain flour
    • 2 teaspoons caster sugar
    • 2 teaspoons dried active baking yeast

    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Extra time:1hour20min rising  ›  Ready in:1hour50min 

    1. Add ingredients in the order suggested by your manufacturer. Set for dough setting and start machine. When the unit signals, remove dough.
    2. Pat dough into a greased 30cm round pizza pan. Let stand 10 minutes. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Spread pizza sauce over dough. Sprinkle toppings over sauce. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

    Remember that the dough takes about an hour 10 mins in the bread machine to prepare...but it's perfect! I divided the dough in two for 2 thin bases and I also put the sauce, garlic, oregano and parmesan cheese on the base and bake it 8-10 mins first then I take it out and add extra toppings for a second bake of 20 mins.     Altered ingredient amounts. I added a little extra flour (total 3 cups) and divided the dough in 2 to make 2 thin and crispy style pizzas.  -  17 Dec 2008
