    Delicious dark pecan bars with brown sugar and golden syrup. My family loves to eat these so I make them often!

    Serves: 12 

    • 2 cups (250g) plain flour
    • 1 cup (150g) packed brown sugar
    • 125g butter
    • 125g margarine
    • 5 eggs
    • 1 cup (250ml) dark golden syrup
    • 3/4 cup (170g) white sugar
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    • 1 cup chopped pecans

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. Combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter and margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    3. Press into a 20x30cm pan and bake for 10 minutes.
    4. Combine remaining ingredients except pecans and blend well. Stir in pecans. Pour over baked crust.
    5. Reduce oven temperature to 140 degrees C. Bake 50 minutes or until set. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars.
