This is a fantastic barbecue sauce that goes beautifully with pork ribs but equally well with chicken and turkey. You can find guava paste in South American shops.

    1. Place the water, guava paste, vinegar, rum, tomato paste, lemon juice, onion, ginger, soy sauce, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and chilli pepper into a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, whisking until evenly blended. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
    2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until the sauce has slightly thickened and is richly flavoured, 10 to 15 minutes. The sauce should be pourable. If it has become too thick thin it with some water. Serve hot or cold.

Very delicious. Very easy to make. I added a little more liquid, but that was the only chage. This recipe is very flavorful. Would be delicious on just about any type of protein, maybe even tofu, why not?  -  05 Jun 2010  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
