Chewy Date Squares

A lovely date bar with a chewy oatmeal crust. You can substitute almond essence for lemon essence as a variation. My kids love them.

These squares are SO yummy, but they require A LOT of work. I don't make them often for this reason, but they are really like traditional date squares. Worth a try, but you may not make them often.

These are the best date squares I have ever had!! The whole family loves them. I think the next time I make them I will try adding cranberries to the date mixture.

These are really delicious. I follow the recipe exactly only I leave the lemon juice out if we don't have it and I've never noticed the different. It works fine if you halve it too. My whole family loves these!

These were fantastic! They were a bit crumbly so I put them in the fridge and they firmed up. Will definitely make again!

At Christmas my mom used to make filled date cookies. I was craving them but was too lazy to roll out the dough, etc. and this recipe had the same basic ingredients. SO glad I tried it! Tastes great and so much easier than mom's way! (She's asked me for the recipe!)
