Fried Ham and Cheese

    12 minutes

So quick, easy and cheap to make I love this toasted ham and cheese sandwich which I often eat as a side to soup.

    80 people made this

    Serves: 1

    • 2 slices whole grain bread
    • 2 teaspoons butter
    • 2 slices Swiss cheese
    • 2 thin slices ham
    • 1 teaspoon mayonnaise
    • 1 teaspoon whole grain mustard

    Preparation:6min  ›  Cook:6min  ›  Ready in:12min

    1. Preheat a frypan over medium-high heat.
    2. Spread one side of each slice of bread with 1 teaspoon butter. Place one slice butter-side down in the hot frypan. Top with Swiss cheese and ham.
    3. Spread the unbuttered side of the second slice of bread with mayonnaise and mustard. Place it butter-side up on top of the sandwich.
    4. Cook until the sandwich is golden brown and the cheese is melted about 3 minutes per side.

Didn't yer mum teach ya to butter both slices of bread then put them butter-sides-together so you don't get butter all over your chopping board? Better method: -Butter one side of each piece of bread, put them butter sides together -Add mayo/mustard mix, ham, and cheese, to first slice -Put first slice on the pan, drop second slice on top, enjoy the frothy goodness No mess no fuss  -  05 Apr 2017

This is a really good sandwich. I like to add sliced pickles and tomatoes to mine. And yes, GREAT with homemade tomato soup.  -  13 Jun 2010  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
